Start of Term – Semester 1, 2022-23

 

1. Student Timetable and Academic Calendar

Your timetable of Semester 1, 2022-23 will be available on SCORE from the afternoon of 6 September 2022 (tentatively). An announcement will be posted on Learner Portal once the class timetable is released. Semester 1 will officially start on 13 September 2022 (Tuesday). Attached please find the Academic Calendar for 2022-23 for your easy reference. Timetabling is a very complex exercise and change of the timetable is not possible. You are reminded not to commit any activities or part-time job before the release of timetable. Students should note that lateness and absenteeism without prior approval will affect their academic progress.

 

1.1 Application for Exemption from Chinese Courses / Core English Courses

Please be reminded that application for exemption from Chinese Courses / Core English Courses for 2022-23 academic year must be submitted with sufficient supporting documents by 5:30pm, 31 August 2022 (Wednesday). The application forms (HP31-CEX-C and HP31-CEX-E) can be downloaded on Learner Portal (Navigation Path: Learner Portal >> My Resources >> Student Services Forms). Please refer to the Learner Portal message posted on 2 August 2022 for more details. The decision on granting a student exemption from a course and/or exemption from attendance of a course rests with the College Principal or his delegate, and their decisions shall be final.

 

1.2 Class Swapping of Generic Courses via SCORE system

All students are required to take and pass all the courses as prescribed in the programme curriculum in order to meet the graduation requirements. Adding or dropping any courses is not allowed. However, you may apply for swapping of the class time of a course. Details will be announced when your timetable is released on Learner Portal.

 

2. Teaching Arrangement for Semester 1, 2022-23

Teaching will be conducted by face-to-face (f2f) in principle. For more details, please refer to the Learner Portal message posted on 7 July 2022. Detailed arrangement of your respective courses will be announced by your lecturers on SOUL 2.0 around one week before the semeter starts.

 

3. Student Handbook

The Student Handbook provides information on:

-academic structure

-academic rules and regulations

-graduation requirements

-services available to students

 

The Student Handbook in its electronic form will be provided on the Learner Portal before the start of the semester. Students will be informed of it once available. All students should read the document carefully, and abide by the rules and regulations stipulated.

 

4. Annual Printing Subsidy

The College will provide an annual printing subsidy to each student at the start of the semester. Arrangements for printing of course materials:

- Students print the course materials on a need basis, replacing the current printing administered by the College.

- Lecturers will either upload the materials of each lesson on the SOUL at least one week beforehand, or upload them in one-go before the start of the semester.

 

Objectives:

It gives students flexibility of using hard or soft copies of teaching and learning (T&L) materials, and save the environment in respect of the use of paper; and It helps students’ preparation before class.

 

Logistics:

The annual printing subsidy (HK$150) will be provided to students via the reload service at the 7-Eleven stores. An email with a personal QR code and redemption arrangements will be sent to students in September. To reload HK$150 to their Octopus card, students have to present their personal QR code, student ID card and Octopus card in person at one of the designated 7-Eleven stores within the valid redemption period. 

 

5. MTR Student Travel Scheme 2022-23

Full-time students who are 25 or below are eligible to apply. Application has to be made on a yearly basis. Students can submit their online application through MTR Mobile or MTR Website by clicking HERE starting from 18 August 2022. Please refer to the MTR Website for details.

 

6. Student Locker

Lockers are available for application on Learner Portal starting from 12:00 noon, 12 September 2022, i.e. one day before the start of Semester 1. If the applications received exceed the number of lockers available, allocation will be made by drawing lots. Students can use the assigned locker for one academic year, and have to re-apply on an annual basis.
